About This Project

This website grew out of everyday life in an architecture office: many special characters such as ≙, m² or ± are needed regularly, but cannot be accessed directly on standard keyboards. The idea was simple – a bookmark with a clear table, click once, done. That's how sonderzeichen.info came to be.

The table does not claim to be exhaustive. Anyone looking for a specific special character not listed here will find it most quickly via a search engine of their choice – for example by searching for "special characters Alt code table".

This project is purely private and non-commercial. The content is provided free of charge. The operator does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness or suitability of the characters and information provided.

AI Transparency

I don't write this code alone. For a while now I've been working closely with AI language models – currently mostly Claude by Anthropic. To me it feels like a mind expander: ideas I could previously only sketch out roughly, I can now actually think through and build. This site came about the same way – I've read, understood, and approved every line myself. I think that deserves to be said openly rather than hidden.

There's no legal requirement for openness like this for a private project like this one, as far as I can tell – this is simply my own, voluntary stance. Anyone who wants to look into the legal background themselves: the European Commission explains the transparency obligations for AI content in German and English.
